1. Specimen Preparation: The material or coating to be tested is fixed to the substrate in the testing machine's fixtures. Typically, the material or coating is pre-applied or adhered to the substrate.
2. Load Application: A peel load is applied through the testing machine's loading system. This load can be tensile, shear, or peel load, depending on the requirements of the peel test.
3. Establishing the Peel Interface: By adjusting the testing machine's fixtures and loading device, the peel initiation point is positioned appropriately, ensuring that the peel interface is subjected to consistent stress during loading.
4. Peeling Process: The loading device applies the peel load, causing the tested material or coating to peel off from the substrate. The magnitude and application rate of the load can be adjusted according to the test requirements.
5. Data Measurement: A load sensor or force sensor measures the force acting on the specimen during the peeling process and records the force change curve. Simultaneously, a displacement sensor records the distance the material is peeled off.
6. Data Recording and Analysis: The testing machine's control system records the peel force data and processes and analyzes it. It can calculate parameters such as peel strength and peel energy to evaluate the adhesion performance of materials or coatings.
